Writing blog entries

This is a short guide about how to write blog entries.

The number of views this blog is getting is in excess of four hundred a day so you’re all getting quite a following. Letting us know how you’re getting on really brings it alive for the rest of us so hence the guide.

Creating a user account

The first thing you want to do is create an account, do this before you go to Thailand. Go to http://www.wordpress.com and click the ‘Sign Up Now’ button. Enter your username, password and email address and then mail Iain Colledge with your email so he can add you as an author.

Logging on and getting to the blog

When you want to log on go to http://www.wordpress.com again and sign in using your username and password. You’ll see under the welcome back message a list of blogs under ‘Your blogs’. You will have needed to let me know before hand so I can add you as an author to the blog first though. Clicking ‘View Site’ takes you to the published blog and to go back you can click ‘My Dashboard’.

Writing a blog entry

When you click ‘Write’ or ‘New Post’ when viewing the site you’ll be taken to the blog posting page. This page works like a simple word processor and the easiest way to get the hang of things is to try out the buttons. The blog isn’t published until you click the ‘Publish’ button so play around and work out what to do. The best way to learn is to mess around and then delete it again under ‘Manage’ and ‘Posts’.

Remember to click on the week you’re out there under categories, this allows people to see all the blogs for a given week regardless when tey were written.

Images

Images can be uploaded or you can use ones already loaded to add some nice pictures to your entry. The size used for non thumbnail images is 400 pixels accross, so use your camera software or  some other program to scale them down before uploading, if this will be used for a thumnail then you can scale it 800 across if you want to. As a worst case I’ll scale them for you afterwards if you can’t do it.

To upload, click on ‘Upload’ and browse your hard disk for the image, put in a title and a description and then click the ‘Upload >>’ button. You can see your uploaded images by clicking ‘Browse’ or ‘Browse All’ for all images. Click on one you like and then click in your blog entry to put it where you want. If it is a main banner image then use ‘Full Size’ else select ‘Thumnail’ and then ‘Send to editor’.

Publishing your blog

When you’re happy with your blog entry, click ‘Publish’. Your blog is now on the main page and people can see it.

That’s really all there is too it, so get going and have fun.

    Hi everyone

Just got back to the hotel after a day of decorating the girls dormitory. Their little faces when they came home from school and saw all the new bedding and decor was worth every brush stroke!!

I am with a great group of people - we all work well together and the children are wonderful - I have to mention Ice and O-Ay.

It is the King’s birthday tomorrow so we are going to the ceremony at Sarnelli House in the morning - no school for the children and no work for us1!! How lucky are we!!!!

Anyway - must go - bottle of beer is calling (or do I mean cooling?)

Love to all especially Georgie, Josh, Keith, Dad and Chris.

    See you all in England!!
